Radical Islam and other assorted BS

Boy I'll tell ya, it's amazing the crap people write me. The long and short of this next exchange is this:

There is a guy who periodically takes it upon himself to call me a liar, point out what he feels I don't understand, and then (usually) end his letter with a point on which we both can agree. ...it's weird; I know.

The latest exchange started because of my 911 Truth Movement article. He took issue with the article's primary assertion which is: "911 Truthers" are simply seeking an accurate account of what took place on 911 and that can't be done without a legitimate investigation. In his eyes, the 911 Truth Movement's "main and only goal is to besmirch President Bush's administration for partisan reasons." Far be it from me to get worked up about a silly comment like that, I simply stated "Well, that isn't my goal."

He then went on to state if the movement "dug up indications or evidence that 911 really was an Islamic plot against America, I have no doubt that such would be repressed, such is their abject vitriolic hatred of President Bush." To which I replied: "I don't doubt it was an Islamic plot; I simply believe they were dupes, useful idiots..." I also called the terrorists douche bags and then referenced how the Northwoods Document talked about creating terrorists. Specifically I referenced the sentence: "We could develop (emphasis added) a Communist Cuban Terror Campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington."

No big deal up to this point, but then he started in on the whole "we are involved in WW III," and our enemy is "bent on world domination as stated by their own leaders" etc, etc. That was pretty much it. I decided I was going to break from my usually polite and sensitive approach and just say what I thought of his assertion.

SIDE NOTE: Before moving on, I need to make something clear. I don't have a problem with curse words. As a matter of fact, there are certain instances where they're damn near necessary to accurately reflect the "tone" of what you're trying to say. (Especially in print.) So, if you're offended by curse words, don't read any more...click off this page NOW.

I replied: "I don't buy the "radical Islam" or the WW3 analogy at all. I think it's all hyperbole to justify our foreign policy....to put it in another perspective: Just because Bush is an asshole (and his PNAC boys want to take over the world) doesn't mean everyone in America supports his actions or will continue to go along indefinitely."

(If you were expecting the "F bomb" that comes in the next exchange.)

OK, so, apparently this guy has a real problem with curse words. He writes me back and one of the first points he makes is: "I don't like Bush nor did I like Clinton, but I wouldn't call either an asshole. That only proves partisan hatred with no class or credibility." He then complains about the "demise of civil political discussion"and implies I "obviously have no use for it."

From there (as you might imagine) he quadruples his effort to convince me of the grave danger we face with statements like: "-maybe when you accept Islam while your neighbors are forced into dhimmitude or executed by an Islamic sword you'll believe..." Aside from a few swipes at my intelligence, this more or less sums up the letter he wrote.

My full response appears below.

I'm just not scared; sorry. And I sometimes call people I don't like "Assholes"...sorry about that too.

If you want to say that means I "lack class and credibility" well, I guess class and credibility really aren't that important in the grand scheme of things. I mean think about it; absent both I somehow manage to not lie, cheat, steal, murder, maim, manipulate, exploit, enslave, or torture. Hell, maybe that is the problem with our elected officials. Maybe it's all that "class" and "credibility" they've got.

You want to know what offends me? Really FUCKING offends me? It isn't the use of bad words; it's people who (in the most civil language imaginable) use words that directly lead to the MURDER of innocent men, woman and children. Give me a choice between hearing somebody call somebody else an "asshole" and seeing somebody describe children with their arms and legs blown off as "collateral damage," I'll take hearing the word "asshole" all day long.

And you're right; I don't buy the contention that "Islam is going to take over the world." How you can (when it's clear the same people peddling that crap are using it as an excuse to take over the world themselves) is beyond me. You don't think the neocons are bent on global domination? Have you read the "Rebuilding America's Defenses" report? I have-And more than rhetoric (which is the most I've seen from the latest bogeyman they've produced) the neocons are in full swing.

What people like you seem to forget is: We were attacked by EXTREMISTS who NEVER should have been able to pull off 911 in the first place. More than enough power and opportunity existed to thwart the attacks. (Assuming of course there was no inside help which is beyond the scope of this discussion...) Anyway, the operative word here is "Extremist."

A deranged murderer is a deranged murderer. It makes little difference whether he is German, Arab, American, Christian, Muslim, Hindu or otherwise.

There are approximately 1.5 BILLION Muslims on this planet. It has been estimated that Al Qaeda (at the time of the 9/11 attacks) had a membership of less than 15,000. -that means 1000th of 1% of those practicing Islam thought Al Qaeda was the right way to go. Plain and simple, it is an opportunistic interpretation of the Quran that Al Qaeda uses to further their agenda- If 99.999% of Muslims can see that clearly, you'd think that would be self-evident to US as well.

Without going into specific atrocities "good Christians" have taken part in, it is worth mentioning that a dirtbag (is that OK? ...dirtbag?) could find justification in the Bible for damn near anything they wanted. From Slavery to Incest.

A clever Christian propagandist could easily justify killing all "non Christians." -claiming that it is not only the desire but the mandate of God himself as this passage from the Bible clearly states:

"If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. 9 You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God"

For thousands of years the same tactics have been used over and over again to seize power and justify conquest
1. Whip up as much fear as possible
2. Offer a solution only you can deliver and
3. Demonize anyone who questions your evidence, your motives or your approach.

I'll worry about seeing my neighbors getting their heads lopped off as soon as you explain to me how an infinitesimal army of "sword wielding Muslims" are going to make their way through 100 million gun wielding Americans. Do you honestly think an unconquerable Al Qaeda army is going to arrive on our shores, invade Washington, and subjugate the whole of America to Islamic law?

If you want to live your life in fear of a grossly overblown threat abroad, go ahead. In the meantime, I'll be fighting the dangerously underestimated threat of those seeking to destroy everything this country was founded on. That isn't something that might happen, it's going on right now.
